Adrianna Lima
8.5 x 11 inches
Plain Bond Paper
Tools: Pencil, Conte, Charcoal, Chalk, Pastel; Photoshop used for the clean-up

What did I learn from this? First, it's good to get back to traditional media -- been doing too much digital lately. And, second, don't use regular paper for intensive pencil drawings. (It's too small and too thin.)

Good 'mixed media effort'. :)

One crit - her top (shirt or whatever) seems to have the form a bit too loose. Perhaps, tightening it would have made it look better.

Yet, I can't dare to go back to traditional medium these days. :P Good one, bolsterstone.

Thanks, V. I need to have a traditional media practice break every now and again or else I fear losing the skills which got me into art in the first place. :smoking:

And it is a valid crit you raise. The problem was that I wanted to keep the posted picture loyal to the scanned original (which looks better) than what was posted. But I had a choice of either having a dark background and losing the detail on her top or keeping the detail on her top and having a really cruddy background. I went with the former.

Ah - a reference was involved. Any links to the photograph in question?

The scanned original I was referring to was the pencil drawing. The shading was just too faint to be picked up.

The scanned original I was referring to in the previous posting was the scan of the pencil sketch, not a photo. My shadings were just too faint to be picked up.

Anyway, there were two references: [link] and [link] . The first had to be used for anatomy reasons because the wallpaper image had cropped off a little too much for the portrait. And, the second, I should note, is lighter than the picture I was working from.

Great work on this and yeah you are right, esp after several times erasing a spot, the paper is almost useless from there.
